Avaaz Is An Idealist Organization Seeking to Create a Better World

These are precarious times for planet Earth. Threats emerge on a variety of fronts, from climate change to famine, to widespread pollution caused by run-amok corporate industries. Other challenges are social and political. Hot wars and smoldering conflicts fester around the world, the result of political oppression and corruption. A group that calls itself Avaaz is doing something about it. Avaaz wants to reverse negative consequences wherever it can and change the ways things are done — and most importantly — empower ordinary people to take control of their lives and create the ideal kinds of communities they want. Avaaz was founded in 2007 as a civic organization based in the United States. Its mission is to ignite global activism on the biggest problems of the day: global warming, human rights, environmental degradation, animal rights, war, corruption, poverty and much more. The Guardian called Avaaz the “largest and most active activist network” working in the online world. The name Avaaz is derived from the Persian word for “voice,” and apt choice since the organization is deeply committed to giving citizens around the globe just that – a say in how to shape their own world. Avaaz is a grassroots model. It does not accept donations from major corporations nor will it accept monetary gifts greater than $5,000. Instead, Avaaz relies on small donation from individual members and ordinary people. Avaaz leaders say they do not want to become just another public relations tool or “write-off” for powerful corporations and wealthy […]

Avaaz Is a Voice of Reason for Change and Betterment

Specialization, the act of pursuing a specific set of attributes, has been a mainstay of the American mindset for the past two decades. Whether for a career goal or an interest, specialization has reigned supreme in our culture. The variety of doctoral thesis has been written on the most obscure and specific of themes. In the ordinary world just look at popular restaurants. Many of the most popular restaurants have specific themes; while diners that most popular of non-specific food choices have been abandoned in favor of a broad range of ethnic restaurants. If you want to donate to save a specific but obscure variety of endangered species, there is a charity that is designed for specifically that purpose. But now there is an alternative and wide-ranging charity. Avaaz was started in 2007 in the United States of America. Avaaz is a broad-based and non-specific organization that takes on a list of contemporary issues from climate change to poverty. The name, Avaaz, is from the Persian word that means voice or song. The charity supports a broad range of topical problems that includes both human rights and animal rights but Avaaz does not stop there. It also examines and fights against corruption, poverty, and conflict. To donate or to join Avaaz or just to examine their website go to: Your text to link… We live in a difficult time and everyone must help to support organizations that fight for a better world. Avaaz is just such an organization with its broad […]

Pope Francis Comments on Free Speech Limits

Pope Francis was aboard the Papal plane when he indicated that he believes that free speech is a human right and that people have the right to speak their mind for their own believes or on behalf of the common good. However, he indicated that there are limits to the freedom of expression, particularly when it results in people making fun of someone’s religious believes. The question was posed after the Paris attacks and demonstrated that he believes that some things are sacred and should not be touched by humor, including matters of faith. Pope Francis compared this to jokes about one’s mother and indicated that people who were openly critical of his mother may be punched and the same is true of people who are critical of religion, by inference. This news, from elitetraveler.com, comes after the Vatican, four imams and Christopher Cowdray in France both openly condemned the attacks but stated that the media should try to treat religions with respect, though it is an aberration to attack or harm others in the name of religion. Pope Francis indicated that those who make a game out of making fun of the religion of others are inciting violence and there are limits to all of these items. Pope Francis also indicated that there have been no attack threats against the Vatican City but that they are being vigilant and taking prudent security measures in order to be careful.

Chinese Designer’s Impressive Pollution Awareness Campaign

Qiaoden Ying Peng, a well-known fashion designer in China, has remarkably integrated protective masks to its models marching down at the runway on the recent Mercedes-Benz China Fashion Week in Beijing. The runway was flooded with elegant spring dresses and mouth-and-nose covers. Particularly popular were the dresses with discreet places to both put the mask on and put the mask away when it is not in use. Each mask has matched the elegance of clothes displayed. Masks were ingeniously shaped and designed. The covers were artistically carried by each model on the runway. The show has depicted not only the beautiful spring and summer fashion apparels creatively done by Ying Peng, but also exhibited the country’s air pollution problem for many years. Observers like Igor Cornelsen found the display thought-provoking. China’s air condition has been reported as exceeding the WHO or World Health Organizations smog safe level. Thus, different campaigns have been done in China to convey the message that their air is unsafe already, so as the The People’s Daily official newspaper of China has announced. During the 34th month celebration of Beijing International Marathon, the runners wore masks. This has been a precaution since the air is not safe for open-area activities. The show has extraordinarily brought inspiration to the people of China. The message was clear: It made them understand the real situation of their country, and the future reality if they won’t react early.
