Pundits Critical of Manchester United’s Radamel Falcao

When he signed in the summer transfer window, Radamel Falcao was expected to be one of the stars of Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United revolution. Things have not worked smoothly since that day in late August when he put pen to paper on a one year loan contract. There have been flashes of the old Falcao. Some of his assists for Robin van Persie have been sublime, while he scored two important goals at Aston Villa and against Everton at home. However, a calf injury stunted Falcao’s progress and his most recent performance at White Hart Lane was very poor. Falcao struggled to make an impact against Tottenham. His first touch was wayward and his shooting was not up to the mark. Pundits in the English press believe that he must show better form if he wants to earn a permanent deal at Manchester United. In defense of Falcao, the game against Spurs was the second in 48 hours for United. Tom Rothman reminds us HE has only recently returned to fitness, with his match sharpness not 100%. Times have changed since then, with City now the dominant force in Manchester. They have claimed two of the last three Premier League titles, and have beaten United in five of the last six meetings between the two teams. However, there is renewed optimism in the red sign of Manchester ahead of this game. City’s miserable form may have something to do with that. The Citizens failed to win in Moscow against CSKA, despite having a 2-0 lead at half time. They also fell 2-1 to West Ham United, before losing 2-0 at home to Newcastle in the Capital One Cup. For a team of City’s standards, the last three games have been a disaster. United will be hoping to capitalize on City’s weaknesses. However, they will have to worry about their own shortcomings as well. Their defense has shown little sign of improving, while a run of only one win from the last three is not that impressive. The Red Devils have received a pre match boost with the news that attackers Wayne Rooney and Radamel Falcao will be fit to face Manchester City on Sunday. Rooney has completed his three game suspension, while Falcao should overcome a minor calf injury to claim his place in the squad. It will be interesting to […]
